Throughout the year the brotherhoods are prepared for the HOLY WEEK.
Holy Week was declared of International Tourist Interest on February 16, 1980.
From the Domingo de Ramos the processional processions take place until Good Friday. The Sabbath is a small pause and it is Easter Sunday when Jesus rises. Holy Week is at the end of March or beginning of April and the Brotherhoods participate in it (42 in total) which are grouped in the Association of Brotherhoods.
The goal of Holy Week is to represent the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ.
All these representations are made in the so-called Thrones, unlike the other Spanish cities that have Steps. The Thrones are different from the Steps of the other cities, while the Steps are carried by bearers on the cervix, the Thrones are loaded on the shoulders, in addition the Thrones are in most cases greater than the Steps.
As in the other cities the Thrones represent Christ and the Virgin accompanied by the penitents who are the Nazarenes, the latter often make promises and some go barefoot, or carry a cross, in addition to the “cirios” (large candles) that illuminate the entire route giving it an atmosphere of recollection.
During the passage of the Thrones there are people who sing Saetas that are songs to the Virgin or the Christ and give a special emotion to the procession causing a special silence and respect.
